| Christopher Corr is based in London, where he was born to Irish parents. He studied graphic design at Manchester Polytechnic and was awarded the Leverhulme Traveling Scholarship to the United States in 1979. Upon his return to London, he completed his masters degree at The Royal College of Art (RCA), where he won the RCA Drawing Prize.
He has taught drawing and printmaking at Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design since 1982, and has been a visiting lecturer at Cambridge College of Arts, Norwich School of Art, Harrow School of Art, The London Institute Camberwell College, Royal College of Art, Cardiff School of Art, the University of California, Berkshire College of Arts and the Newport College of Arts.
He has exhibited extensively, including solo exhibits at Curwen Gallery, London; Berkeley Square Gallery, London; Cadogan Gallery, London; and group exhibitions at Hayward Gallery, London; Royal Academy, London; and the National Theatre, London, among others.
His round-the-world travels provide much inspiration for his work. His first trip to India in 1986 resulted in a one-person show entitled “Welcome to India,” which was followed by a book and a short BBC-TV film of the same name.
Commissions range from book jackets for works by Salman Rushdie and Vikram Seth; posters for London Transport; and the World Aids Day 1996 campaign. Clients include The Body Shop, Habitat, Ikea, Qantas, Windstar Cruises and UNICEF. In 1999, the Royal Mail sent him to Bosnia to paint SFOR, the peace-keeping troops, for a commemorative stamp as part of its Millennium Stamps Project.
In addition to book jackets, he has illustrated numerous books, including The Arabian Nights , published by Pavilion Books.
