Orawin Velz
Director of Economic Forecasting
Research and Business Development, Mortgage Bankers Association

Orawin Velz is director of economic forecasting in the research and economics group at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). As a leader of MBA’s research on residential mortgage lending issues, Velz provides economic and policy analysis of trends in the housing and mortgage markets, and produces forecasts regarding those markets and their impact on the economy.

Velz produces a monthly forecast as well as daily and weekly economic commentary appearing on MBA’s Web site (www.mortgagebankers.org/research), and in MBA NewsLink, an electronic publication providing a daily digest of industry news and trends to mortgage professionals. She also contributes to the research group’s DataNotes series, which explores and analyzes a specific topic in the real estate finance industry, and contributes to MBA advocacy materials.

For five years prior to joining MBA, Velz was a senior economist in the economics and mortgage market analysis department at Fannie Mae, where she produced monthly forecasts for the board of director’s use in business planning. Prior to that, she was with the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) for 10 years, most recently as a managing director in the research division.

Velz earned her doctorate in economics from the University of Connecticut.
